Microchipping

It’s always sad to hear when families have lost their fur-babies. That’s why we want to ensure ALL pets are microchipped and can find their way home. We also recommend you have an ID tag attached to your pet’s collar, as this can speed up the lost and found process.

Microchipping at our Wauchope vet hospital is a very safe procedure involving the insertion of a chip, approximately the size of a grain of rice, into the back of their neck. With a special scanner, a vet can identify a pet that has been brought into the clinic, and it can be rapidly reunited with its owner. If the chip is not present, or has not been updated, and there is no tag, we are obliged to call the ranger who can often help us out, as we are not allowed to house stary pets at our hospital.

Making sure microchip details are up to date

Microchip details are no good if the phone number is disconnected or you’ve moved house! So each time you change your contact details, make sure you update them on the microchip register.

If you know your pet’s microchip number, click here to find out which register their details are on, or visit us today so we can scan your pet’s microchip and point you in the right direction.

If your pet is lost, they can’t phone home. However, if your pet is microchipped (and the details are up to date) then someone else might be able to phone home for them!
