Soft Tissue Surgery

The veterinary surgeons at Timbertown Vet are experienced in all forms of soft tissue surgery and are committed to getting the best outcome for your pet’s health.

What is soft tissue surgery?

The body’s soft tissues are those parts not associated with the nervous (e.g. brain) and musculoskeletal (bone) systems. Soft tissue surgery is a broad discipline and includes many surgeries you might already be familiar with,

  • Desexing
  • Large mass or lump removals
  • Caesareans
  • Respiratory & chest surgery
  • Heart, liver and intestinal surgery
  • Foreign material removals
  • Urinary tract surgery

If your pet requires soft tissue surgery at Timbertown Vet, our friendly staff will explain to you exactly what’s involved and what you’ll need to do, but here’s what you can generally expect.

Timbertown Vet - Pet Surgery

In the morning

The pet will be admitted into our surgical ward in the morning, at a time that will work for you, your pet, and our team’s surgery schedule for the day. Our dedicated staff will be on hand to care for your pet. We’ll do a pre-anaesthetic exam, in most cases some pre anaesthetic blood work, and we will usually sedate your pet shortly before the surgery is scheduled.

During surgery

General anaesthesia will be administered by our surgeon, and surgery is performed under close observation from the team of experienced nursing staff. Blood pressure, heart rate, ECG, breathing rate and blood oxygen levels are monitored while our expert surgeon carries out the operation. We continue to monitor the pet during the recovery stage and they will be clean, dry, warm and settled in our modern veterinary hospital.

What then?

In most cases pets are able to return home once they are awake, walking, and have their pain under control. If there are any concerns about a pet’s recovery we may keep them overnight for observation (either at our Timbertown or Bonny Hills location)- your pet’s health is our top priority. Once your pet has returned home Timbertown Vet will provide you with comprehensive post-surgery care instructions.

Orthopaedic Surgery

Our Timbertown Vet Hospital doesn’t currently offer orthopaedic surgery, however at Bonny Hills we can offer some basic orthopaedics. For larger surgeries, we can refer you to hospitals who will be able to help.
